The mansion is hidden away from the tiny urban sprawl of Northern California. Aside from the basement (which was off-limits), there's three floors with the second and third floor offering sleeping accomodations for guests. There's also individual apartments inside the mansion (where on-site staff stay, and where a legacy owner spent her later years). There are many odd areas, since every room is unique in shape and size. The top floor especially has a lot of dark nooks. Wooden floors add to the creepiness of the site. During the day, the place has a nice warmth to it, but at night, areas tend to feel darker than normal and sound travels well throughout the house with the cooler air.
It is important to note that people working at the mansion in the past have had personal experiences ranging from full-bodied apparitions, to hearing footsteps, to prankster-type physical activity. While no foul play took place here (that could be factually verified), ownership of the mansion has changed hands several times over the years and there's surely untold stories waiting to be heard.
The first thing to discuss is debunking. The claim of doors opening and slamming shut could easily be due to the airflow suction created with multiple windows open on the third floor. Just a quick test of opening a door slightly showed how powerful the air was and could easily slam shut, or open a non-latched door. Another problem was the lack of sound insulation (normal for older buildings). Footsteps could be heard everywhere and often sounded as if they were coming from a different area. Sometimes it sounded as if people were walking above us, when they were actually just in the staircase. As with most older buildings, the electrical wiring was faulty. Lights flickered in certain areas and there were unknown electrical switches (which we later found out controlled the lights to the porch, debunking other mysterious activity).
While doing our investigation, we felt some cold spots and one of us was even perhaps touched on the back. There were bangs and creaking sounds on the third floor that was hard to identify as being natural or paranormal. Also on the third floor were random smells. Often, we would get a quick whiff of perfume or even a burning smell, and then it would be gone. One person saw a shadow dart across into a room. We were excited to have the laser grids pay off finally when we saw sections of the dots shake (but not all of them), or dim. This coincided with EVP activity we captured at the time as well.
The writers staying at the mansion overnight had some memorable experiences. One was shaken in his sleep, while others were visited by a black mass late at night. Footsteps were heard, as were disembodied whispers of possibly the word "God". During an investigation, we were even visited by the black mass (see Evidence section). We collected a ton of evidence from this investigation and we feel that the place definitely has spiritual inhabitants there. They appear very willing to communicate at times, and we are unsure of just how many there are... at least five or six, even as many as ten. In the evidence, there's names that we repeatedly hear on EVPs, like Gretchen and Mac. There's some other names referred to as well. There's repeated references to a phone call or the phone ringing. Given the amount of EVPs we collected here, it's almost unbelievable. However, we did have camcorders pointed at our stationary recorders, so we know no one was there to contaminate audio, plus we got clear EVPs responses while doing investigation sessions. Some of the most amazing ones are between multiple entities talking to each other. It seems if perhaps the spirits are very well aware of their situation and dislike when people ('the others?') are there. Although, they were very co-operative with trying to communicate with us. There's male spirits there that are protective of a female. There's also obvious sadness... perhaps from death. To make it all more complex, there also seems to be residual activity from past occupants of this house (especially religious). All in all, this is definitely the best location we have ever investigated for activity.
